With an impressive career spanning over 40 years in the logistics sector, Ron brings invaluable experience and a proven track record to our team, particularly in the areas of Mergers and Acquisitions, and Recruitment.
A Rich Legacy in Logistics Management
Ron’s illustrious logistics career commenced in 1978 with an apprenticeship at DB Schenker in Stuttgart, specializing in Domestic Transport and Events. His expertise quickly propelled him to a pivotal managerial role in ocean freight operations in Sydney, Australia. As he progressed to General Manager for New South Wales, he adeptly managed a team exceeding 100 staff members.
Strategic Leadership During the Sydney Olympic Games
Among Ron’s significant achievements is his leadership as the Global Director for the Sydney Olympic Games logistics between 1999 and 2001, where he not only secured the logistics service contract but also successfully managed over 700 staff across eight locations. His strategic management was crucial to the logistical success of the Games.
Expanding DB Schenker’s Reach in Australia and New Zealand
Ron’s journey continued as he became the Managing Director and CEO of DB Schenker Australia/New Zealand, a role he held from 2002 until 2019. Under his leadership, the company saw substantial growth, expanding to over 1200 staff and 25 locations dedicated to Air Freight, Ocean Freight, and Contract Logistics. Ron also played a critical role in steering the APAC management team, shaping the organization’s strategy across Asia.
Recognitions and Contributions
Ron’s dedication to enhancing bilateral trade and promoting German industry in Australia was honored in 2016 with the prestigious Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. He has also been actively involved with the German Australian Chamber of Commerce, serving as a Director and Chairman.
Consulting and Ongoing Commitments
After his tenure with DB Schenker, Ron ventured into consulting, establishing RMK Consultancy Pty Ltd to support the freight industry. His consultancy focuses on key areas such as Air and Ocean Freight Procurement, Sales Activities, Business Development, and overall Management Consulting. He is on the board of National Intermodal to build rail infrastructure across Australia to create mode change from road to rail and supporting the de-carbonisation of the industry.
Privately:
Ron is married and has 3 children, 35, 32 and 18 years. He calls Sydney home, and enjoys the great outdoors in Australia. Walking with his 2 dogs on the beaches, sailing with a Hanse 36 on Sydney harbour, playing Golf at one of the 100 Golfcourses in Sydney, or hitting that Tennis ball on a regular basis.
