Scan Global Logistics (SGL), a global logistics company, has recently taken a significant step to further strengthen its position in Germany, Europe’s largest logistics market. The acquisition of ETS Transport & Logistics GmbH (ETS), a well-established ocean freight forwarder in Germany, expands SGL’s presence and commercial strength.
The acquisition agreement was signed on 5 June and includes both ETS Transport & Logistics GmbH and ETS Fulfillment GmbH. Headquartered in Bremen, ETS was founded in 2002 and has a branch in Hamburg and two fulfilment warehouses in Gudensberg and Neu Wulmstorf. With its extensive commercial resources and expertise, ETS significantly strengthens SGL’s geographical presence in Northern Germany.
Allan Melgaard, Global CEO of Scan Global Logistics, explains the strategic rationale behind the acquisition: “Strengthening our presence in the world’s fourth largest logistics market supports SGL’s strategic direction. Strengthening the German market is a key factor for us given the importance of Germany as a global trading partner”.
The partnership between SGL and ETS is a perfect fit as both companies have similar business philosophies. ETS has developed a strong and sustainable business model based on close customer relationships, trust and reliable services, which fits perfectly with SGL’s way of doing business. Through the acquisition, ETS expands SGL’s overall portfolio and service offering, providing customers with enhanced global services in a tailored approach.
The owners of ETS, Thomas Frese and Sven E. Schoon, are also optimistic about the partnership. They explain: “SGL is a strong and suitable partner. Together, we can further expand and improve our business, leverage the longstanding industry knowledge and expertise of our employees, and offer our customers enhanced global services in the same spirit and customised way they are accustomed to”.
The acquisition of ETS also provides an enhanced customer offering. SGL is known for its customer-centric approach and tailor-made logistics and forwarding solutions for various industry segments. By combining the resources and competencies of both companies, SGL’s service and product offering in Germany will be expanded, especially in the area of ocean freight. ETS customers will benefit from an expanded global network and SGL’s comprehensive range of services, while continuing to be supported by ETS’s local contacts.
The seller was advised on the acquisition of ETS Transport & Logistics GmbH (ETS) and ETS Fulfillment GmbH by Martin Sieg, Managing Partner of WCL Worldwide Consultants in Logistics. Martin Sieg played a key role in the transaction and contributed to the smooth and successful completion of the sale. His extensive industry knowledge and experience in logistics consulting was of great value to all parties involved. With his support, Scan Global Logistics and ETS were able to realise their shared vision and lay the foundations for a successful working relationship.
