A global leader in logistics and supply chain solutions is seeking an experienced Senior Director, Duty Drawback Operations. This organization specializes in managing the efficient movement of goods and information across global supply chains through air, ocean, and ground transportation. Key Responsibilities:
Overseeing Duty Drawback Program:
Lead the end-to-end duty drawback process, including identifying eligible goods, preparing claims, and submitting documentation to relevant customs authorities. Develop strategies to maximize duty drawback refunds across product lines and shipping routes.Provide detailed reports on drawback activities, refund status, and program performance to senior management and stakeholders.
Strategic Guidance and Optimization:
Advise clients and internal teams on optimizing the duty drawback process and identifying opportunities for enhanced refund potential.
Analyze historical trade data to determine eligibility and implement strategies for improving duty recovery rates.
Problem-Solving and Issue Resolution:
Address complex issues related to duty drawback claims, such as disputes, regulatory changes, or documentation discrepancies.Collaborate with customs authorities to resolve delays or issues with claims and refunds.Act as the primary point of contact for escalations involving customs agencies.
Ensuring Compliance with Regulations:
Stay informed about changes to trade regulations, tariffs, and customs laws affecting duty drawback processes.Ensure all claims comply with applicable laws, including the Trade Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Act (TFTEA). Advise on regulatory developments that could impact duty drawback eligibility and procedures.
Collaboration with Internal Teams:
Work closely with departments such as legal, finance, logistics, and procurement to ensure accurate reporting and claims management.
Provide training and mentorship to junior staff involved in the duty drawback process.
Managing Customs Audits and Reviews:
Lead preparations for internal or external audits related to duty drawback claims.
Conduct self-assessments to identify potential risks and ensure claims are defensible and well-documented. Manage responses to audits or inquiries from customs authorities, addressing discrepancies or disputes.
Research and Policy Development:
Investigate new opportunities to improve financial outcomes through duty drawback programs.
Develop and implement internal policies and best practices for managing drawback claims and ensuring compliance.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. Advanced certifications or a Master’s degree are advantageous.
Experience: 8+ years in international trade, customs compliance, or related fields, with a strong focus on duty drawback programs.
Expertise: In-depth knowledge of duty drawback claims, import/export compliance, and customs regulations.
Technical Skills: Proficiency with Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) and trade compliance software, along with Microsoft Office Suite.
Leadership: Proven ability to manage teams and collaborate across departments to achieve organizational goals.
Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities to handle complex issues and recommend actionable solutions.
Communication: Excellent negotiation and interpersonal skills for working with internal and external stakeholders, including customs authorities.
